Russell “Dennis” Harvey, 75, of Evanston, Wyoming, died February 20, 2022, at Evanston Regional Hospital from complications due to COVID.

He was born February 16, 1947, in Coalville, UT, the son of Evelyn Geraldine Harvey Dinsmore and the late Russell A. Harvey. He was the oldest of 4 siblings. On January 7, 1967, he married Georgia Ann Blakeslee Harvey in Evanston, Wyoming.

He served in the United Air Force Strategic Air Command beginning in 1966 and received an Honorable Discharge in November 1970.  After his discharge, he was employed by the City of Evanston Police Force with a 33-year career.  In July 1977, Dennis became the Chief of Police in which capacity he held for 26 years.  He was the longest-serving Chief of Police in the State of Wyoming at the time.  After an outstanding career in service to the community that he loved, he retired from the City of Evanston in January 2005.   He went on to continue his service to the community as a member of Evanston City Council for 4 years.

While working as the Chief of Police, he completed his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement in June 1993.  He was an active member of the Elk’s Club, Masonic Lodge, and Shriner’s of Evanston, Wyoming

He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Geraldine Dinsmore or Evanston, Wyoming; his son, Jeffrey Harvey, and wife, Catalina Charpentier Bowen, of Owasso, Oklahoma, and grandchildren Patrick, William, and Thomas, and step-grandchildren Danilo and Ivanna; his son Steve Harvey and wife, Heidi, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and grandson Dakota; foster daughter, Marilyn Spittler, and husband, Phil of Colorado, and grandchildren, Beth, Kim, and Cory; and former wife Georgia Harvey of Evanston, Wyoming.  Was predeceased by his brother Phillip Harvey and infant brother Thomas, survived brother Larry Harvey and wife, Dayna of Evanston, Wyoming, sister Janice Graville and husband, Randy of Bradford, Tennessee; and sister-in-law Barbara Harvey of Colorado along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Viewing to be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 6-8 P.M. at Crandell Funeral Home and services to be held at Roundhouse, Friday, February 25, 2022, beginning at 11 A.M. in Evanston, Wyoming. Burial to take place at the Evanston Cemetery following the services.
