Rex R Porter

Born January 10, 1945

Died October 27, 2021

Rex R Porter passed away at his home in Mountain View, Wyoming, on October 27, 2021. He was born January 10, 1945 to Golden “Dutch” and Glenna Rich Porter in Ogden Utah.   Rex was the 4th of 6 children.

Rex married Susan Jo Ledbetter on December 15, 1973 in Elko, Nevada. The marriage was latter solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.

Rex Spent his youth in Morgan Utah. He learned early to work and play hard.  His family had a sheep and mink business along with his uncles. He spent his summers supplying sheep camps, docking lambs, and watering the mink.

He had plenty of time to be mischievous. Many are the stories he told of his youthful escapades.  He attended Morgan High School where he played basketball and football graduating in 1963.  Rex graduated from Weber State University with a degree in Business Management/Accounting. During that time he worked many jobs from pumping gas to working the kill floor in a sheep meat packing plant; and, at times leaving school to help with the family sheep business. He served in the Utah National Guard from 1967-1971. After college, he was employed by Walker Bank in Salt Lake City, Utah as a loan officer.  When his dad had a heart attack, he left the bank to run the Porter Bros. sheep business which he ran until 1978. This was the job he truly loved. The transition from Porter Bros. took him from Utah to California to Bridger Valley, Wyoming. He spent the next few years working in the sheep and cattle industry along with other jobs in the oil field and highway construction until he was able to start his own business selling used cars and building vinyl fence.

Rex loved living in Mountain View, Wyoming, where he could have his children and grandkids come and have a project to work on or play in the “Porter” pond.  He enjoyed following them to any event they were participating in. When he became too weak to make it to a game or activity, the grandkids had to give him a report. He enjoyed playing in pool tournaments or golfing. He enjoyed the many people he was able to associate with.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and, thoroughly, enjoyed being of service to the people he came in contact with through his callings – especially the youth.

Rex  is survived by his wife, Susan; two children; daughter, Jamie (Kyle) Eyre of Afton, Wyoming, & son,  Jake (Chary Young) Porter of Mountain View, Wyoming; eight grandchildren Kenadee, Ashtyn, Avrie, and Ethan Eyre & Paytan, Sam, Halle, and Charlee Porter; two sisters, Gwen Francis and Joanne (Errol) Nelson of Morgan, Utah and one brother, Dick (Susan) Porter, Pleasant Grove, Utah; a brother-in-law, Stewart Murdock of Roy, Utah; as well as, many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dutch & Glenna Porter; a sister, Connie Murdock; and, a brother, Danny Porter; a brother-in-law, George Francis.

A special thanks to Mary Reinholz and Cowboy Cares Home Health for their caring assistance.
