John Larsen

December 7, 1949 — April 22, 2021

Mountain View, Wyoming

John Larsen was born December 7th 1949 to Jack and Marcille Munsey in Salt Lake City Utah.  He was then adopted and raised by Heinz and Donna Larsen. John spent his childhood in Sunset Utah and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1967. After graduation he served an LDS mission in Argentina. At the conclusion of his mission he returned to Spring City Utah and met Peggy Barnard. John and Peggy were married on May 27th 1972 in Ephraim Utah. John worked a variety of jobs including building camp trailers, roofing houses, and hauling trash. In the spring of 1974, Bobby, their first son was born. In 1975 John relocated his small family to Green River, Wyoming and started a job at Allied Chemicals (Tata) where he spent the next 30 years working in the pump house. In 1976 Janice was born. Three years later, in 1979, they welcomed another daughter, Mandy, and in 1981 a second son, Scott, would complete the family. In 1985 they all moved to Mountain View, Wyoming where he remained until his passing.

John delighted in different interests and activities. He enjoyed Boy Scouts and going on camping trips with the local troop. He also loved family camping trips every summer to Yellowstone where they would swim in the Firehole river, fish, eat fudgesicles, and drive around to see the geysers, buffalo, and people at Old Faithful Lodge. Another labor of love was to fix up old bicycles for his grandkids. John even went so far as to pick up spare bikes from DI and yard sales, strip the bikes, and then build a one of a kind which he would proudly show off and talk about. He was a skilled mechanic and could work on and talk about cars for hours. His favorite vehicle was a 1963 convertible Pontiac Bonneville. John had a particularly keen sense for sniffing out a good cheeseburger anywhere he went. Once he found a spot he loved he would go back repeatedly and never get tired of his find. If asked he could give turn by turn directions to any location. John had fourteen grandchildren and enjoyed attending the different activities they were involved in. Around 1997 John started a new job in the power house at Tata. There are lots of stories about him cooking feasts for his coworkers.  After retirement he and Peggy worked as camp hosts where he made new friends and was able to enjoy his camp trailer.

John will be remembered as a patient man with a gentle soul. Despite life's challenges he was optimistic and wanted to fix any problems that came up. John always tried his best and helped in any way he could. He will be missed, the caretaker of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Larsen, Bobby and Jennifer Larsen, Janice and Bart Lyman, Amanda and Lenard Davenport, Scott and Christie Larsen, Patti Sundberg, Phil Larsen, and Ray and Linda McNelly. He is preceded in death by his parents Heinz and Donna Larsen, Jack and Marcille Munsey, Michael Munsey, and Shawna Munsey.
