Joellen Lake

December 8, 1985 — August 31, 2020

Oakley, Utah

JoEllen Lake, born December 8, 1985 passed away peacefully at her home in Oakley surrounded by loving family both here and on the other side of the veil on August 31, 2020. Our sweet angel arrived to our home February 13, 1986 and was sealed to our family on November 29, 1986. Having here in in our home has brought us so much joy, countless blessings, and a little glimpse of perfection. She loved her family, enjoyed doing things with us like taking family trips to Disneyland and Lagoon. She loved to watch and tease her nieces and nephews, she loved to have them climb on her wheelchair and have them push her around. She looked forward to Christmas and seeing Santa as well as Halloween every year, although every day was kind of like Halloween to her because she always wanted to dress up in a princess costume. I guess she was just dressing up for what she really was, and already knew what the rest of us didn’t. JoEllen, along with her parents and sister Gena, were missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she was able to do a variety of duties like deliver mail with her mother for 2 years. For Jo, it was the simple things in life that made her happy. She enjoyed watching Netflix, loved to have her hair and nails done, and was always willing to lighten the mood when someone fell by having a good laugh even if it was at someone else’s expense, she was quite a tease. She and her always-contagious smile will be greatly missed by her parents, David and Margene Lake of Oakley, her dear sister Gena of Oakley, sister Lacey (Mark) Charlesworth of Pleasant Grove, her brother Nathan of Mississippi, her sister JuliAnne (Casey) Anderson of Oakley, and her sister Alicia (Josh) Anderson of Oakley, as well as her 13 nieces and nephews, 2 great-nieces and 1 great on-the-way. She was welcomed into heaven by her Grandpa and Grandma Lake, Grandpa and Grandma Duke, her uncles Ralph Duke and Fred Andreasen, and her aunts Shirley, Janet, Alice, and Kathyrn Duke, we can only imagine their reunion. Our family had a “seeing” or farewell and celebrated her life while she was still here instead of having a funeral, and what a celebration it was with all but 2 in the family. We are going to hold a graveside service on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020 at 11:00am at the Oakley Cemetery.

We would like to express our deep appreciation to Myindi Hansen for the love and care she gave to JoEllen, to Canyons Hospice for Jason Marsh and Linda Morrison for all their help and compassion with helping with our sweet angel during this difficult time. We also thank the University of Utah Hospital for all they did to make receiving the difficult news easier, to help get her comfortable and be able to get her home. Many, many thanks to all that have called, text, stopped by and said extra prayers for JoEllen and our family. We appreciate the love that has been shown. And a VERY special thank you to her sisters that have helped take care of her from the time she was a little baby, right up to her last breath.
