Betty Gines

March 12, 1941 — June 10, 2022

Kamas, Utah

Betty Williams Gines was born on March 12, 1941 in Oakland, California to Morris P. Williams and Thelda Pearl (Crandall) Williams. Her childhood was spent in San Lorenzo, California. When she was in the eighth grade her parents returned to their hometown of Kamas, Utah. Betty graduated from South Summit High School and then attended Brigham Young University. She later returned to Kamas where she married her husband of 50 years, Jimmie Gines.

Betty and Jimmie created their home in Kamas where they raised their 6 children. Betty was an extremely motivated self-starter and was always busy. In high school she won the Betty Crocker Award secondary to her many talents including: cooking, sewing, quilt making, knitting and crocheting among many others. Betty continued her domestic pursuits as a no-nonsense devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her focus was always on family, her sisters were her best friends, her children were her life and her grandchildren were perfect in her eyes. Betty prioritized education and was very proud to have all of her children graduate from college.

Betty was a pillar in her community, she drove the school bus for twenty-years forging life-long connections with both children and adults throughout her community. She was friendly, always had time for people and never went anywhere where she didn’t come across a friend.  She served her community through leadership and other callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of which she was a life-long member.  The most important teachings that she lived daily were love at home, eternal families and love and kindness toward others.  Additionally, Betty served on the Kamas City Council, and was selfless while constantly in service of others.

On June 10, 2022, she died in her home surrounded by family. She will forever be missed.

She is survived by her children: Gary J. (Dianne) Gines; Sally (Stacy) Salmans; Brent Morris (Sheri) Gines; Kim (Eric) Thompson; Kristin (Aaron) Phipps; and Susan (Charles) Homan.  She will also be missed by her sister, Bonnie McDonald; and her 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
