Bernard Sweat

May 10, 1949 — June 5, 2019

Fort Bridger

Bernard Dee Sweat, 70, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City with his girls by his side.

Bernard was born on May 10, 1949 to Earl and Veneta Sweat in Heber City, UT.

He was a United States Army Veteran and was in the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janet Sweat.

Bernard met the love of his life, Arlene, in 1971 and they were married a year later. They loved each other and worked side by side until the day he passed.

Bernard always worked hard.  He loved to ranch and also worked construction and drove semis and heavy equipment in the oil field.

Bernard was a member of the American Legion for 47 years.  He loved playing golf, hunting, ranching, and spending time with his friends and family.  He was so proud of his three girls and his two grandchildren, Tyson and Berkley.  They were the light of his life.

Bernard was the most hard working, loving, honest, loyal, and knowledgeable man you would ever meet.  His humor, quick wit, and smile drew people in.  He didn’t say much, but when he spoke you listened.  He knew so much about so many things.  His family and friends loved talking with him-often times over a Calvert and water and usually with his best buddy, Larry.

He enjoyed his life and everyone he knows and loves has memories that will last a lifetime.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Arlene Sweat of Fort Bridger; two daughters, Joy (Trent) Wargo of Collinsville, TX and Julie (Brad) Bateman of Evanston; two grandchildren, Tyson and Berkley Bateman both of Evanston; three brothers, Steve (Consuelo) Sweat and Brent (Jana) Sweat both of Fruitland, UT and Lane (Carolyn) Sweat of Kaysville, UT; two sisters, Jackie (Ted) McNeill of Fruitland, UT and Tawna (Cecil) Barney of Farmington, UT and numerous nieces and nephews.
