Wayne Martin

May 17, 1966 — September 12, 2022

Evanston, WY

Wayne Michael Martin, 56 years, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home in Evanston, Wyoming.

He was born in Jackson, Michigan to Michael Andrew Martin and Sherry Jean Merritt Martin. In high school he was active in football, wrestling and track.

After high school he joined the United States Army. He served six years before enlisting in the US Marine Corp for two years as a ranger where he went into their culinary school at Fort Lee and was one of the Top 20 Chefs in America in the 1990’s. Wayne was a martial artist studying Kenpo and Jiujitsu.

In 2011 Wayne fulfilled one of his lofty goals of raising awareness for the support of children of fallen soldiers, police, and firemen by completing a bicycle trip from Florida to California and back over the course of a year supported most often spending his nights at the local fire station where he was often featured on the local TV channels.

For many years until his death, Wayne daily battled multiple brain and body seizures that often rendered him helpless and total energy loss from his diabetic condition that he had hidden so well. It is evident however, from the things he daily accomplished, he refused to allow his “ball and chain” challenges to slow his progress.

Wayne had a great love for the scriptures, for the Ten Commandments tried daily to follow in the Saviors footsteps and demonstrated this in his daily demeanor with all persons. He loved searching his ancestry and tracing his family and spiritual roots.

Wayne also was a member of the American Culinary Federation, Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Dare To Dream Big Foundation, and the World Chefs Association.

Wayne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cherished his affiliation therein. His wife and children deeply appreciate their good neighbors and business friends and the ward members for their love and support during this difficult time. They also feel the love of Wayne’s extended family and the many friends they made while living in Layton, Utah.

He is survived by his wife Rosa ‘Kaye’ Martin; his children, Gregory Wayne Martin, Tatiana Cheri Bennett & David, Zachary Caleb Martin, Keeano Skye Martin, Lilliana Faith Martin, Leanne Martin and Shania Katrina Martin; mother , Sherry Jean Martin, brothers, Eric Walker, Dustin Walker and Brad Walker; sisters Janalee Marie Walker & Jack, Angela Jean Martin and Lori Ann Mercer; and six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene & Lillian Merritt and Andy & Faith Martin.
