Sherman A. Woodard, 79, died Aug. 6, 2011 in Ogden, Utah at the George E. Wahlen V.A. Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born September 1, 1931 in Francis, Utah. He was the middle son of Earl K. and Margarettie Woodard. At the young age of 17, he joined the Air Force where he became a pilot during the Korean Conflict. During his service, he met and married Shirley Westmoreland on Sept. 12, 1953 in Tremonton, Ut. They had six children. Shirley later died of cancer in 1966. Sherman married Martha Adell Hatch on June 27, 1967 in Las Vegas, NV. Together they raised 10 children.
He was a general contractor by profession, and built many homes, as well as beautified many buildings of business, including restoring the spiral stair case at Hansen Planetarium. Upon retiring, he truly enjoyed farming in his land in Francis.
Survived by his wife of 44 years, Martha Adell; 5 sons and 5 daughters: Sherry Yocham, Nina Wakkuri, S. Dean (Sue)Woodard, James Ray (Melodee) Westmoreland, Steven (Tamra)Woodard, Bobby (Julie) Westmoreland, Janie (Greg) McGovern, Bret (Shannon) Woodard, Cindy (Kevin) Cannon, and Judy (Daniel) Lewis. His posterity includes 54 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 1 great–great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both brothers, Allie and Lynn and his trusty dog and truest friend “Spike”.
