Russel Leland Myers passed away on June 17, 2022, at the age of 87. Cowboy Rus took his last ride in the mountains surrounded by family. He was a lifelong resident of Evanston.
Rus leaves behind his significant other Joyce Martines, daughter Wendy (Todd) Griffith, son Theron “Pogo” (Kendra) Myers, his grandson Trey Griffith, granddaughters Tiana Griffith, Taylor and Kortney Myers, his sister Nelle (Neil) Nebbeker, brother Galen (Hazel) Myers, several nieces, nephews, and beloved friends who will all miss him very much. Rus is preceded in death by his wife Jo, parents Wes and Fern Myers, and brother Johnny Myers.
Rus was Coast Guard veteran from the Korean War. He was also a proud Shriner and an active member of the Masonic affiliates and Eastern Star, holding many offices in each. Over the years he put many miles across the state visiting many chapters & lodges.
He was a cowboy at heart, and he spent a lot of time at the Myers Family Ranch. He loved spending time outdoors, camping with family, and gardening. Rus enjoyed visiting family and friends near and far – no one was a stranger. He found great humor in pranks and jokes. His stories will be greatly missed even the ones he told more than once!
A Masonic/Eastern Star memorial service is planned for Sunday August 21, 2022, at 2:00 pm, the Beeman-Cashin Building (35 10th St. Evanston WY). All family & friends are welcome to attend & share stories.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Uinta County Museum or Shriner’s Hospital.
