JoAnn Peterson

June 5, 1934 — March 17, 2024

JoAnn Pace Peterson passed away on March 17, 2024 in her home surrounded by her family.

JoAnn was born on June 5, 1934 to George Edward Pace and Grace Bernice Mills Pace, in Hoytsville Utah where she grew up on the family farm. She enjoyed ice skating with her father and learned the love of homemaking from her mother. She graduated from North Summit High School where she was the salutatorian of the graduating class of 1952.

On November 26, 1952 she married the love of her life, Lyle Peterson, in the the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Marion, Utah where they owned and operated Mountain View Dairy. JoAnn spent her entire life on a dairy farm and never milked a cow. Even though JoAnn didn't help with farm chores, she always wanted to know where they were working, and when they would be back. All JoAnn ever wanted to be was a wife and mother. Lyle and JoAnn welcomed 8 adorable children into their home where they taught them the value of rising early, working hard, and taking pride in a job well done. JoAnn was an amazing homemaker; making food was her love language. With 8 kids to feed, she spent most of her life in the kitchen. She enjoyed making nutritious homemade meals and she seldom bought prepared food. For many years she made 20 loaves of bread each week, countless cookies, cinnamon rolls, and other goodies. There was never a shortage of treats at the Peterson home. Every year at Christmas time she loved making many varieties of Christmas candy to share with family, friends and neighbors.

Each summer she worked tirelessly to grow a large garden, and absolutely loved filling dozens of canning jars with produce for the coming winter. Having a beautiful flower garden made her heart so happy.

She was a skilled seamstress, making sure the girls had a newly sewn dress for Easter and Christmas each year, along with making their prom and wedding dresses.

It would be hard to count the number of ball games that Lyle and JoAnn attended over the years as they watched their 8 kids and many grandkids participate in sports. To call JoAnn a superfan would be an understatement. JoAnn was always up for watching a game, unless it was soccer, which she didn't enjoy watching. Lyle and JoAnn spent many winter hours snowmobiling with their family in Hoyt's Canyon.

Lyle and JoAnn were fortunate to spend 15+ years working in the temple together. JoAnn continued her service there for an additional 4 years after Lyle's passing in 2008.

She was most proud of her large posterity. At last count, JoAnn had 47 grandchildren and 73 great grandchildren.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, her son, Ray, grandsons, Carson and Canon Peterson, Tyler Cullimore, Kasey Rhode, and her brother, Lamar Pace. She is survived by her children: Kim (Donna), Jeff (Nan), Paul (Kristy), daughter-in-law Deb Peterson, Jan (Clark) Blazzard, Kent (LuAnn), Sheri (Rocky) Lewis, and Chad (Kristy), sister Nola (Lyle) Gertsch, brothers, Marvin (Teresa) Pace, Gary (Sharon) Pace.

A viewing will be held at the Kamas, Utah Stake Center (3038 North SR 32) on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23rd at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30 am to 10:45 am prior to services. Interment at Marion Cemetery.
