James Richards Blazzard, age 81 of Kamas, Utah passed away Sunday morning March 22, 2020
Dad was born April 17, 1938 in Oakley, Utah to James Hopwood and Anna Mae Richards Blazzard.
Dad married BYU track star and Summit County Queen, Kelly Ann Hughes on October 23, 1959 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He always felt blessed to have her by his side. They spent happy days riding up the canyon, square dancing, and raising their 11 children. Dad felt very blessed to see all of his children married in the temple. His family was his pride and joy!
Dad worked with his father (Jim) as he started Blazzard Lumber Company. With his family, he worked and dedicated his entire life to the business. As a multi-generational logger, he was a lumberman through and through. He could look at a log and know how to saw the maximum yield out of it. Dad loved being in the mountains logging, building roads on the CAT, looking at timber sales on his favorite horse or snowmobile, or just going for a ride. Dad was never alone, he always involved his family in his daily endeavors and four generations have worked alongside him.
Dad taught us to "have a little faith" and to do what is right and the Lord will bless you. He instilled in us to work hard, to have integrity, be honest, and to "Be Good".
He was on the high council over-seeing the church farm for over ten years. He was Elders Quorum president for the Kamas Stake Area and in the bishopric, but his favorite calling was nursery leader. Dad lived the gospel because he loved it.
Dad also served as Mayor of Kamas City. He knew something about everything and could relate to anyone.
Dad is survived by his wife Kelly Ann of Kamas; 11 children, Clark H. (Jan) Blazzard, Barry J. (Jamie) Blazzard, Ann (Dee) Dillree, Laura (Miles) Hicken, Jennifer (Scot) Fullmer, Nancy (Bryan) Betournay, Brian G. (Debra) Blazzard, David R. (Misty) Blazzard, James P. (Monica) Blazzard, Marie (Eric) Wamsley, Mary Lou (Cole) Giles.
Dad had a special love for his 41 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren (two more on the way). Also surviving are his five siblings, Bruce H. Blazzard, Joanne Marchant, Susan Russell, John Blazzard, and Catherine Kennington.
Dad is free from pain and can roam the forests and grade the roads of heaven with his loved ones before him.
Dad met a couple of friends in the last weeks of his life—Tom and Dwight were a tender mercy to our father. Thank you for your ministering and friendship.
A private service is planned on Saturday, March 28, 2020 for immediate family only due to safety precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There will be a honk and wave procession down Main Street (from Center Street to 300 North) in Kamas at 1:30. The Interment to follow at the Marion Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and kindness. "Be Good!"
