Helen Lake

Helen Beard Taylor Lake, 93, died July 17, 2011 the home of her son, David, in Oakley, Utah.

Helen was born January 13, 1918, during a blizzard in Tremonton, Utah, to Moses Campbell and Edna Ellen Beard Taylor. During her sophomore year in high school she met her future husband, Boyd Carroll Lake. They were married June 13, 1939, in the Logan Temple.

Helen taught art, English and was the librarian in the South Summit schools. She was an active member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Civic Club. She was an avid genealogist, and spent her life creating quilts and other handwork that are treasures to her family.

Helen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities. She was an excellent teacher and enjoyed teaching in the Church. She taught Gospel Doctrine and worked with the Cub Scouts. She served as Relief Society President and secretary for Primary and Relief Society.

Helen served a full time mission with her husband Boyd in the Johannesburg South Africa Mission from 1985 to 1986. They also served together as temple ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Boyd. They were married 71 years. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Katherine (Fred) Andreasen, Brigham City, Utah; Renee (Vaun) Mikesell, St. George, Utah, currently serving an area medical mission with her husband; David (Margene), Oakley, Utah; Dayne (Maureen), Las Vegas, Nevada; 23 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; one sister Irene Ostrander, Murray, Utah.

Funeral services will be 11 am on Friday July 22, 2011 at the Oakley LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel Thursday evening, from 6 to 8 pm and at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 am before the funeral. Burial will be at the Oakley City Cemetery.
