Glen Thompson

1948-2012 Glen Gardiner Thompson, 64, passed away on August 26, 2012 in Salt Lake City, UT. Glen was born February 18, 1948 in Ogden, UT to Donna Davies and Charles Gardiner Thompson.  Glen grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High in 1966.  He then joined the United States Marine Corp and was a member of the Utah Honor Platoon #1071.  Glen served in the Marines for three years.  He was in active combat in Vietnam for one and one half of those years for which he received two Purple Hearts.  He died from Parkinson’s Disease which was caused from the effects of exposure to agent orange.

After returning home he worked for Hercules Aerospace for 15 years.  He then served as the Summit County Treasurer for 25 years.  During this time he served six years as President of the Utah Association of County Treasurers and one year as the National Association of County Treasurers.  He reluctantly retired in 2010, due to his declining health.

Glen married Ellen Marchant Rutledge on July 5, 1980,  he then moved to Peoa, where he resided for 32 years.  He always supported his children and grandchildren in all their activities.  He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various callings.

Glen was well known for his volunteer work, he served as a Commander in the Ogden Reserve Police Force.  He also served as a volunteer firefighter and Fire Commissioner for the South Summit Fire District for 19 years.  He helped to establish the Peoa Town Park Association.  He was a member of the Kamas Valley Lions.  He also did volunteer work with the Summit County Fair, Summit County Friends of Animals, and the Peace House Shelter in Park City which serves victims of domestic violence.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; sister; Gaylene Seamons and brother, Michael Thompson.
He is survived by his wife; Ellen Thompson, Peoa, son; Benjamin (Stacy) Thompson, West Jordan, daughters; Stacey Lorraine Thompson, Logan, Sherri (Michael) Harper, Honeyville, and Jennifer (Bryant) Richins, Henefer. Brothers; Roger (Cindy) Thompson, Washington Terrace, and David (Diane) Thompson, Vienna, VA. Glen is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Tiffany, Charles, Tina, Douglas, Natalie, Jayce, Brennen, and Connor.

A viewing will be held on Friday August 31, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the Peoa LDS Ward Chapel, 1224 W State Road 32.  Funeral Services will be held at the Peoa LDS Ward Chapel on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11 am with a viewing one hour prior.  Interment will follow at the Peoa Cemetery.
