Floyd Cornia

May 8, 1932 — February 12, 2023

Randolph

Floyd Kay Cornia (Runt) was born on May 8th 1932, along with his twin brother Lloyd, to Theris and Mayme Cornia in Woodruff Utah. Weighing only 3lbs he spent his first 3 months in a shoe box on the warming oven door of the old majestic stove, earning him his nickname Runt.

As a young boy living up Woodruff creek Floyd rode his horse to school every day starting his love of horses. They made their own fun racing horses, spooking horses, and causing other mischief. He was known for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and one liners.

He graduated South Rich High School in 1950 and married Norma Jackson on September 12, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their life together on the ranch and had 4 children. Venna (Ron) Ward, Perry (Candy) Cornia, Clint (Tammie) Cornia, and Todd (Maira) Cornia. They worked hard and made an impression on a lot of hired men. With hard work came a lot of fun and memories. Floyd loved training cutting horses, calf roping, team roping, horse racing, and cutter racing. He enjoyed a lot of success through the years and even raced in the World Finals Cutter races and was the 1981 Utah Cutting Futurity Champion.

As much as Floyd loved competing he also loved helping kids compete and mounted many local kids for High School Rodeo. He was recognized in 2010 on the National Day of the American Cowboy in Ogden Utah and was still training colts into his late eighties. He loved to tease and got a lot of joy out of his 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Venna Ward, Sister Merlin Paul, brothers Keith Cornia and Lloyd Cornia, and his parents Theris and Mayme Cornia.

We would like to thank Rich County EMTS, Evanston Hospital, and Best Home Health and Hospice.
