Elma Hatch

June 19, 1909 — April 24, 2012

Elma Norris Reay Hatch 1909-2012. Our beloved Aunt, Stepmother and friend departed this life shortly before her 103rd birthday, on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Provo, Utah.
Elma Norris was born June 19, 1909 in Randolph, Rich County, Utah to Hyrum Job Norris, Jr. and Grace Wilson Norris.  She was the oldest of 4 children.  She lived out her childhood in Randolph, Utah and graduated from Randolph High School.  She received her teaching certificate from the University of Utah, and earned extra credits from Washington State University in Seattle.  She had her first teaching job in Chesterfield, Idaho.  After a year or two, she returned to Randolph and taught Kindergarten, First and Second Grades there for the next ten years.
Elma was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of  Latter-day Saints, and fulfilled many callings. She was the Ward Junior Sunday School Coordinator for fifteen years, and the Stake Coordinator for eight years.   She enjoyed doing family history and temple work.
Elma married Claude M. Reay on June 2, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple.  Claude was the Postmaster in Randolph; soon Elma became a clerk in the Post Office, and continued teaching school as well.  When Claude died, in 1985, Elma moved to St. George, Utah.  In 1989, she married Theron Hatch; they enjoyed 3 years together, before he died in 1992.  In 2008 she moved to Provo, Utah to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Rosalie Frodsham, Wendell Norris, Linda Frandsen, Kent Norris, Colleen Fritter, Ellen Yates, Janeal  Walton, Virginia Plowman, and Earl Norris, and their spouses; also numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepchildren: Lee Hatch, DeAnn Brown, Brent Hatch and Kathy Reese.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Wendell Wilson Norris, LeGrande Norris, and Gerald H. Norris; nephews: Harold J. Norris and Ronald H. Norris.  Special thanks go to the Staff of Courtyard at Jamestown  Extended Care Unit for their wonderful care of Elma for the last four years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. at the Randolph Ward Chapel.  Friends and family may call from 10:00-11:15 A.M.  prior to the services at the Church.  Burial will be in the Randolph, Utah Cemetery.
