Boyd Lake

June 24, 1917 — January 30, 2011

Boyd Carroll Lake, 93, long time educator and farmer, died January 30, 2011 at his son’s home in Oakley, Utah.

Boyd was born on June 24, 1917 in Blanding, Utah, to William Bailey and Sarah Emma Carroll Lake. He married his long time sweetheart, Helen Beard Taylor on June 13, 1939 in the Logan Temple.

Boyd taught for one year at Roosevelt High School before beginning a 42 year career at South Summit High School in Kamas, Utah, teaching business and music as well as serving as the school counselor and clerk of the board. He served in elected positions in education on both the local and state levels and for many years on the South Bench ditch board.

Boyd was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served throughout his lifetime as a faithful home teacher. He served as Sunday School Superintendent (President) of the Oakley Ward, as one of the Presidents of the 242nd Quorum of Seventy in the South Summit Stake for 15 years, as the Stake Mission President of the South Summit Stake for 3 years, on the Stake High Council for 4 years, as the Bishop of the Oakley Ward for 8 years, and as the Stake Clerk of the Kamas Utah Stake for 3 years.

Boyd and his wife Helen served a full time mission together in the Johannesburg South Africa Mission from 1985 to 1986. They also served together as Temple Ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years.

He is survived by his widow; two daughters and two sons, Katherine (Fred) Andreasen, Brigham City, Utah; Renee (Vaun) Mikesell, St. George, Utah; David (Margene), Oakley, Utah; Dayne (Maureen), Las Vegas, Nevada; 23 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; one brother, George H. (Ilene), Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, February 5 at the Oakley LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel Friday evening February 4, from 6 to 8 pm and 9 am Saturday before the funeral. Burial will be at the Oakley City Cemetery.
