Arlene Smith

July 16, 1933 — June 30, 2012

Arlene Marie Smith went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 30th, 2012, in West Point, Utah. She was born July 16th, 1933, in Ames, Iowa, to Ralph and LaVonda (Bonnie) Tice.  She spent her childhood years in Ames, and later married Johnnie B. Smith in 1952. Within a few years they moved to Southern California where she lived for all but the last few weeks of her life. She attended Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, CA, for over 35 years, and was very active in the women’s ministry there.
“Grandma” Arlene, as she was called by many family members in later years, was a true and dedicated follower of Jesus Christ.  She took her faith seriously and lived it out by the way she loved everyone as Jesus would.  Her favorite Bible verse is found in Romans 8:28 which states, “And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”  Indeed, Arlene’s highest purpose in life was to love God with all her “heart, and soul, and mind” (Matt. 22:37).  And her greatest joy in life was introducing others to the Savior, Jesus Christ, who loved us all enough to die on the cross that those who believe in Him may have eternal life.  We will all miss her sweet smile and constant reminder that, “I’m praying for you!”
She is survived by two children: a son, Steven Smith (Midge), of Kaysville, Utah, and a daughter, Cindy Beebe (Scott), of Fallbrook, California; five grandchildren: Jeremy Smith, Amy Wilkins,  Silas Smith, Matthew Beebe, Katie Breslin; eleven great-grandchildren; her mother, Bonnie Tice, of Ames, a brother, Earl Tice, also of Ames, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Tice, and her husband, Johnnie B. Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14th, 2012, at 9:00 AM, at Calvary Chapel Wasatch Front in Clearfield, Utah. A graveside service and interment will follow at 2:00 PM at the Evanston City Cemetery in Evanston, Wyoming.
